• Loosen the top 2 to 3 inches of soil and break up clumps of dirt
• Spread grass seeds evenly by hand in small areas and use a lawn spreader in larger spaces.  Apply 16 seeds per square inch of land. Too many seeds in close proximity can produce weak or thin grass.
• Cover grass seeds with approximately ¼ inch of soil and keep seeds moist by watering once daily.

Avoid using weed killers before or after planting grass seed in order for germination to occur. Also, grass seeds should be planted in the spring or fall to produce a gorgeous lawn.

What Type of Grass Seed is Best in Peel and Halton Regions?

Because the ground freezes in Peel and Halton Regions during the winter months, choosing a hearty, cold weather grass seed is imperative to obtaining a dense, rich lawn. Cool grass seeds work well in southern Ontario and the northern portions of the U.S. – typically cool season grass seeds grow best when temperatures average between 60 to 75 degrees.
